October Sharing Session – My dabbling in Genealogy
Genealogy is the study of a person or family’s ancestral history. Mr Ng Yew Kang, the founding president of the Genealogy Society Singapore will share:
- His experience in discovering his family’s ancestral lineage and history; and
- His involvement in promoting interest amongst Singaporeans to discover and record their own family histories.
During this session, he will also give tips on how to trace and compile your own family’s genealogy.
ABOUT MR NG YEW KANG
Born on 9 August 1940, Mr Ng graduated from the University of Singapore in 1976 and joined the Administrative Service of the Singapore Civil Service. He held various positions as Deputy Director/Director in a number of Ministries and Statutory Boards including the Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Defence, People’s Association and the then Ministry of Information and the Arts. He also served a short stint as the Consul General in Xiamen, China under the Ministry of Foreign Service to look after Singapore’s interest in China. After his retirement, he has been rendering community services and is also more actively involving in encouraging Singaporeans to know and preserve their roots.
