Learn all about the amazing Korean Jumping Clay and how you can form interesting and colourful little items of characters from it. It is all work and play as you enhance your motor skills and stretch your imagination to create your very own masterpiece. At the end of class, you will have your own masterpiece and newly formed friends.

About Amita

Amita is very passionate about arts and crafts and she is always on lookout to learn and keep herself abreast with new art projects or courses. Graduated with a diploma in 3D Character Animation, she is also well-versed in paintings using different mediums such as acrylic and oil painting, colour pencil rendering, batik painting and more. Amita has been conducting art and craft workshops for different organisations for many years in both Singapore and India. During her free time, she teaches clay sculpting at Singapore Association of Mental Health and various crafts at Singapore Anglican Community Service

SALT DOUGH FIGURINE

Programme Outline
Salt dough is an inedible organic modelling material which can be easily made by mixing flour, salt, water and oil. Food colouring can be added to the dough to give it colour. Similar to the common clay, salt dough can be used to make interesting figurines. Come explore the adventure of Salt Dough Figurine with trainer, Ms Catherine Loo!

About Ms Catherine Loo
Catherine was born in Hong Kong and had lived in Canada for 30 years. Since coming to Singapore in Sept 2007, Catherine has been an active member and a volunteer for WINGS starting 2009.  Her outgoing and sociable personality has gained her many new Singaporean friends. She enjoys teaching and has been sharing her skills with her peers on courses like Sudoku, Paper Craft, Chair Exercise and Fondant decoration.

Parchment Craft (June Friday 1.30pm)

PARCHMENT CRAFT

Parchment Craft, also known as Pergamano, is the art of embellishing and decorating parchment paper (or vellum paper) through the use of techniques such as: embossing, perforating, stippling, cutting and colouring. In this 4-session workshop, participants will learn the basics techniques of Parchment Craft to make beautiful cards, bookmarks and picture frames.

About Ms Sylvia Sim
Sylvia Sim started to learn how to sew at a tender age. She subsequently went on to learn nail sculpture and hairdressing, and began her career in bridal makeup. When Lupus came into her life at 25, it never deterred her spirit to continue learning and doing voluntary work. More than 10 years ago, she created her mini Saga Seed jewellery line named “Bouquet of Joys”. In celebration of SG50, Sylvia was also involved in writing 5 books (e.g. “Keeping Depression at Bay”, “Seniors – Reflections and Sharing”) under the guidance of RSVP.

Conceptual Drawing and Cognitive Enhancement (May Thursday 10am)

CONCEPTUAL DRAWING AND COGNITIVE ENHANCEMENT

Conceptual drawing is a drawing skill that enables participants to develop and create new art ideas from an existing idea. Participants will also be taught simple drawing skills such as the fundamental elements and principles of arts and rendering* skills to enable them to draw and render objects. At the end of the workshop, participants would have learnt basic conceptual thinking skill to enhance their cognitive development as well as emotional and physical development. *Rendering refers to colouring, pencil-shading, ink-marking etc.

About Dr. Kay Kok

Dr. Kay Kok Chung Oi is an established interdisciplinary visual artist, art researcher and art educator. One of her artworks entitled “Virtuous Cycle” is located at the platform level of Macpherson MRT Station. She has also presented in international conferences and published her works internationally. She is currently an associate trainer at SEED Institute and associate faculty member at UniSim; and is also an advisory committee member for People’s Associate Children’s Art.

May Mey is currently a Visual Arts Program Instructor with the Down Syndrome Association. Besides painting classes, she has also conducted various craft workshops such as Decoupage, Clay Art and Plaster-cast Sculpture for their members. May Mey has various experiences in conducting workshops at major events, outreach road shows, social and corporate events for organisations such as the Down Syndrome Association, Singapore Heart Foundation and Manulife Singapore. In addition, she also teaches art and craft for children aged 4 years to 7 years at Crestar.

中国书法 – 提高班 Chinese Calligraphy – Progressive (Apr/May Wednesday 1.30pm)

CHINESE CALLIGRAPHY – PROGRESSIVE

完成初学者班后,学员将能在导师周和顺的指导下,练习更多行书与楷书并提升书法技巧。

After completing the workshops for beginners, participants can now take their calligraphy skills to another level through this workshop. They will learn and practice more regular and cursive styles with the guidance of Mr Chew Ho Son.

Sessions will be conducted mainly in Mandarin, PowerPoint in English and Chinese. Participants should complete the beginner courses or have basic calligraphy techniques.

Mr Chew Ho Son graduated from the Nanyang University. He worked at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) from 1981 – 2009 and was the former Director of Finance at NTU. Mr Chew received his professional calligraphy training at Tsing Hua University in Beijing. He has been sharing his passion for the Chinese culture and calligraphy through teaching at various communities.

Calligraphy, the art of writing Chinese characters, is an highly regarded visual art form of Chinese culture. During the calligraphy workshop, you will be introduced to the Chinese calligraphy and its history. Participants will also learn the correct postures and skills of handling brush, the basic brush strokes and its fundamental rules, character structure/planning and more. At the end of the session, you will be able to appreciate the art of Chinese calligraphy and create your own meaningful artworks.

Folk art was taught in a simple, systematic manner and was passed on from generation to generation. During the 4 sessions, you will learn how to paint in acrylic, step-by-step basic strokes and different techniques which make learning easy, enjoyable and fun.

About Ms Jessie Lau
Ms Jessie Lau loves painting since young. She has learnt Chinese painting and Western art in Hong Kong and Singapore, and has been teaching art at home since 2013. She is interested to share her passion and to impart her skills of making expressive handmade art in everyday items to her students. She is also currently a part-time trainer in People’s Association since 2015.

DECOUPAGE ART
Decoupage is a fun and easy way to decorate any objects such as household items, bags, furniture, with paper cut-outs or beautiful European style napkins. It is a perfect way of beautifying plain, dull items or giving old ones a new breath of life!

During the sessions, you will be introduced to the techniques and materials of decoupage; and encourage to think out-of-the-box as you enjoy the fun and satisfaction in creating art projects with any everyday items. At the end of the class, you would be able to make your own masterpieces – which make perfect gifts for your loved ones and friends.

About Ms Pearl Tang
Pearl Tang has great passion in arts and crafts. Her interests include crochet, knitting, decoupage, polymer clay sculpture and jewellery-making. Pearl is also a trained facilitator and had obtained WDA – ACTA certification. She has more than 10 years of experience in the training/education industry and is currently doing part-time teaching in English and Business Studies.
