Programme Outline
Salt dough is an inedible organic modelling material which can be easily made by mixing flour, salt, water and oil. Food colouring can be added to the dough to give it colour. Similar to the common clay, salt dough can be used to make interesting figurines. Come explore the adventure of Salt Dough Figurine with trainer, Ms Catherine Loo!

About Ms Catherine Loo
Catherine was born in Hong Kong and had lived in Canada for 30 years. Since coming to Singapore in Sept 2007, Catherine has been an active member and a volunteer for WINGS starting 2009.  Her outgoing and sociable personality has gained her many new Singaporean friends. She enjoys teaching and has been sharing her skills with her peers on courses like Sudoku, Paper Craft, Chair Exercise and Fondant decoration.

Decorative Folk Art Painting (Aug/Sep Thursday 1.30pm)

DECORATIVE FOLK ART PAINTING

Folk art was taught in a simple, systematic manner and was passed on from generation to generation. Painting is for everyone to express their creativity, and to paint beautiful gifts and items for homes, families and friends. During the 4 sessions, you will learn how to paint in acrylic, step-by-step basic strokes and different techniques which make learning easy, enjoyable and fun.

About Ms Jessie Lau
Ms Jessie Lau loves painting since young. She has learnt Chinese painting and Western art in Hong Kong and Singapore, and has been teaching art at home since 2013. She is interested to share her passion and to impart her skills of making expressive handmade art in everyday items to her students. She is also currently a part-time trainer in People’s Association since 2015.

Conceptual Drawing and Cognitive Enhancement (Aug/Sep Thursday 10am)

CONCEPTUAL DRAWING AND COGNITIVE ENHANCEMENT

Conceptual drawing is a drawing skill that enables participants to develop and create new art ideas from an existing idea. Participants will also be taught simple drawing skills such as the fundamental elements and principles of arts and rendering* skills to enable them to draw and render objects. At the end of the workshop, participants would have learnt basic conceptual thinking skill to enhance their cognitive development as well as emotional and physical development. *Rendering refers to colouring, pencil-shading, ink-marking etc.

About Dr. Kay Kok

Dr. Kay Kok Chung Oi is an established interdisciplinary visual artist, art researcher and art educator. One of her artworks entitled “Virtuous Cycle” is located at the platform level of Macpherson MRT Station. She has also presented in international conferences and published her works internationally. She is currently an associate trainer at SEED Institute and associate faculty member at UniSim; and is also an advisory committee member for People’s Associate Children’s Art.

About Ms Janice Tay
Janice has always been passionate about crafts and has been pursuing it full-time since she retired. In recent years, she started to do craft weaving using only eco-friendly materials made from paper pulp and creates beautiful handbags, baskets and household items. She hopes to share her skills and interests with others who are equally passionate in learning crafts.

Learn the basic techniques of Chinese ink painting such as the basic brush strokes, techniques of lines, dots and ink tone variations.

Introduction to ink painting materials and techniques of brush strokes

Learn the 4 key themes known as the “Four Gentlemen”, also called the “Four Noble Ones”

About Ms Fiona Tham
Ms Fiona learned Chinese Ink Painting a few years ago. Since then, it has unleashed her latent talent of artistic skills and her art works has flourished extensively.

Fiona has also been actively contributing her gifted skill in many areas of community works.

中国书法 (初级) Chinese Calligraphy for Beginners (Jul/Aug Tuesday 2pm)

CHINESE CALLIGRAPHY – BEGINNER

课程目标 Programme Outline
书法被认为是东亚的重要艺术和最优雅的写字形式。导师将介绍介绍有关汉字书写艺术、发展史、基本书写常识 (执笔与运笔方法、基本笔画、书写汉字规律)。学员将学习基本的技法。欣赏与练习书法字的简单结构。理论与实践,练习配合。

Calligraphy, the art of writing Chinese characters, is an highly regarded visual art form of Chinese culture. During the calligraphy workshop, you will be introduced to the Chinese calligraphy and its history. Participants will also learn the correct postures and skills of handling brush, the basic brush strokes and its fundamental rules, character structure/planning and more. At the end of the session, you will be able to appreciate the art of Chinese calligraphy and create your own meaningful artworks.

导师周和顺 Chew Ho Son
前南洋理工大学财务处处长。(1981-2009年任职于南洋理工大学) 。获北京清华大学书法艺术高级研究课程证书 。2010年开始为南洋理工大学孔子学院中华文化怡养研修课程及国际学生交流课程书法兼职导师;人民协会合格书法导师 (PA Trainer) 。曾参加新加坡及中国、韩国、法国等区域及国际书法比赛。作品曾在各地展出或被收藏。

Mr Chew Ho Son graduated from the Nanyang University. He worked at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) from 1981 – 2009 and was the former Director of Finance at NTU. Mr Chew received his professional calligraphy training at Tsing Hua University in Beijing. He has been sharing his passion for the Chinese culture and calligraphy through teaching at various communities.

Osteoporosis has been a growing health concern worldwide. Hip fractures in those over 50 years increased 5 times for women and 1.5 times in men from the late 1960’s to the late 90’s in Singapore.

But did you know that osteoporosis is largely preventable? Join our senior volunteer speaker David, who will share with you his own experience and journey in osteoporosis prevention through natural means.

About Mr. David Chua
David started his career as a secondary school teacher before switching to the banking and property industry. At the age of 40, he decided to take charge of his own health and got himself certified as an Enzyme Therapist with the Transformation Enzyme Corporation (USA)*; and started his career in the health sector. Now retired and at age 70, he is proud to stay medicine-free and pain-free!

About Mr Alan Wong

Alan Wong picked up drawing as a hobby and mainly self-taught, while he was a young student.  He enjoys Chinese calligraphy, water colour painting, oil painting and more, however, his personal favourite is portrait sketching. Prior to his retirement, he was a Facilities Manager for the Data Centres of several multinational companies handling electrical, cooling, fire and security systems and networks, etc. Now, retired at age 69,
Alan actively volunteers in community services and provides free tuition to students from single parent family.
