Batik Painting for Beginners

Create your own Batik masterpiece! During the workshop, you will learn how to trace the design on a cloth, frame your art piece and make a sample of your preferred colour scheme. Learn the art of batik painting and its waxing techniques with the Tjanting. Participants are encouraged to complete at least 3 artworks during the sessions as practice makes perfect!

About Amita

Amita is very passionate about arts and crafts and she is always on lookout to learn and keep herself abreast with new art projects or courses. Graduated with a diploma in 3D Character Animation, she is also well-versed in paintings using different mediums such as acrylic and oil painting, colour pencil rendering, batik painting and more. Amita has been conducting art and craft workshops for different organisations for many years in both Singapore and India. During her free time, she teaches clay sculpting at Singapore Association of Mental Health and various crafts at Singapore Anglican Community Service

中国书法 – 提高班 Chinese Calligraphy – Progressive (Feb/Mar Wednesday Afternoons 1.30pm)

CHINESE CALLIGRAPHY – PROGRESSIVE

完成初学者班后,学员将能在导师周和顺的指导下,练习更多行书与楷书并提升书法技巧。

After completing the workshops for beginners, participants can now take their calligraphy skills to another level though this workshop. They will learn and practice more regular and cursive styles with the guidance of Mr Chew Ho Son.

Sessions will be conducted mainly in Mandarin, PowerPoint in English and Chinese. Participants should complete the beginner courses or have basic calligraphy techniques.

Mr Chew Ho Son graduated from the Nanyang University. He worked at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) from 1981 – 2009 and was the former Director of Finance at NTU. Mr Chew received his professional calligraphy training at Tsing Hua University in Beijing. He has been sharing his passion for the Chinese culture and calligraphy through teaching at various communities.

书法被认为是东亚的重要艺术和最优雅的写字形式。导师将介绍介绍有关汉字书写艺术、发展史、基本书写常识 (执笔与运笔方法、基本笔画、书写汉字规律)。学员将学习基本的技法。欣赏与练习书法字的简单结构。理论与实践,练习配合。

Calligraphy, the art of writing Chinese characters, is an highly regarded visual art form of Chinese culture. During the calligraphy workshop, you will be introduced to the Chinese calligraphy and its history. Participants will also learn the correct postures and skills of handling brush, the basic brush strokes and its fundamental rules, character structure/planning and more. At the end of the session, you will be able to appreciate the art of Chinese calligraphy and create your own meaningful artworks.

Interested to learn simple basket weaving? Join Ms Janice Tay in this 2-session eco-craft class and learn to make a simple yet elegant ribbon basket. You will also be introduced to basics of eco-craft that uses materials made of paper pulp – 100% recycled from milk cartons and grain husk.

At the end of the course, you will have your masterpiece and newly formed friends to enjoy this eco-friendly journey with!

Janice has always been passionate about crafts and has been pursuing it full-time since she retired. In recent years, she started to do craft weaving using only eco-friendly materials made from paper pulp and creates beautiful handbags, baskets and household items. This 8-session workshop aims to develop your interest in drama and bring them to a new level of appreciation through group exercises, pair work and role plays. About Debbie Lee Lodge and June Goh

Debbie and June have strong passion for drama and have since accumulated years of stage and film experience. Both were trained under The Necessary Stage Theatre for Seniors Program and have undergone training in drama facilitation.

Debbie, a trainer in Communication Skills, is also a freelance actress for stage and film. She is in the cast of Tanglin (Channel 5 drama) and has appeared in some commercials such as Expedia and Texas Chicken. She hopes that through drama, seniors will discover hidden talents which will open up new doors for them. Her joviality and interactive teaching style will surely encourage one to participate.

June, in her late 50s, started exploring new ‘adventures’ after leaving the corporate world in 2007. In 2008, June started her acting stint with Theatre For Seniors (TFS), a sub-group supported by The Necessary Stage. To ensure continuity of the group, 20 of TFS members formed the Ageless Theatre in 2011, a non-profit drama interest group for seniors. For the past 5 years, Ageless Theatre has had 6 productions. Besides drama acting, June also participated in other forms of theatre works such as playback, playwriting and forum theatres.

About Mr Alan Wong

Alan Wong picked up drawing as a hobby and mainly self-taught, while he was a young student.  He enjoys Chinese calligraphy, water colour painting, oil painting and more, however, his personal favourite is portrait sketching. Prior to his retirement, he was a Facilities Manager for the Data Centres of several multinational companies handling electrical, cooling, fire and security systems and networks, etc. Now, retired at age 69, Alan actively volunteers in community services and provides free tuition to students from single parent family.
