So what is happiness ? Is it a state of well-being that encompasses enjoying a good life—that is, with a sense of purpose and Sense of joy

Genetic makeup, environment , achievements, marital status, social relations can dictate happiness.

So do individual ways of thinking and expressing feeling. So you can decide is happiness made up of the concept of greater good or resident evil.

Researchers estimate that much of happiness is under personal control and individual decision.

“LIVING WELL, FINISHING STRONG”
Life is a long distance race. Many of us are generally prepared for the first half of the race as our paths are chartered by schools, careers, family and children. However, how will you be guided in the next half of your life?  There are no textbook answers as we know. 
During this guided session, you will take some time to do some personal reflection, share your thoughts, and also learn from other participants and volunteer facilitator.

This introductory session will help you to:

–       Understand the urgency to make a plan

–       Map out what “Living Well, Finishing Strong” means to you

–       Write down 2 – 3 action steps you will take

About Goh Pi Kuan
Goh Pi Kuan, 58, retired from the corporate world after working in the oil and gas industry for 30 years.  He worked in various capacities such as retail, planning, business development, marketing, learning and development, including an appointment as the General Manager of Fuels. Pi Kuan is currently an Associate Lecturer at Ngee Ann Polytechnic in the Arts Business Management programme, and has mentored many young people. He also has a passion for Bottle Cap Art and was the winner of the 2017 Earth Fest Singapore for his recycled bottle cap project.

Western Classical Music Appreciation

Learn to appreciate western classical music through some of the world’s best-loved melodies. This sharing session will cover how to understand the basic rudiments of music, regardless of whether you have any music background. How are melodies created? How does one read a music score in a song? Is it different from solfège? Do join our volunteer speaker, Debbie, as she unravels the ‘mysteries’ of music and helps you sing a selected song ‘musically’ and to use movement to express yourself.

About Debbie Lee Lodge

Debbie Lee Lodge was a piano and electone organ teacher for about 10 years. She conducted music workshops at the NUS Extra-Mural Department for adults who yearned for artistic enrichment programmes and facilitated music workshops for the Social Development Unit  (now known as Social Development Network). In addition, she also organised outings to the Singapore Symphony Orchestra and social dinners with musical themes for her participants so that they could appreciate music better. Debbie is currently a freelance actress for stage and film.

Introduction to 3D Folk Art Painting

3D Folk Art Painting is all about using various brush strokes and loading techniques. While it can be easy to learn, it may be difficult to master the techniques. During the session, Mr Lim will share with you on the know-how to help you kick-start your exploratory journey in 3D art. He will also do a simple demonstration; and participants will also have the opportunity to try out simple basic brushstrokes.

About Mr Lim Teo Cher
Mr Lim, born in 1950, has been interested in art since young and his hobbies include attending art exhibitions and painting. He worked in public sector for more than 40 years before retiring recently. It was only at the age of 60 that he started to upgrade his skills, which certified him as a qualified manicurist. He is currently learning eyebrow embroidery at the Mirror D’International College.

Over the recent years, more and more studies have shown that physical exercises and brain exercises complement each other in keeping both your brawn and brains healthy! During our sharing session, our volunteer speaker Catherine Loo will demonstrate how to do simple exercises using a chair in the comfort of your home. After a good stretch and workout, work your brains with Catherine with Sudoku as she shares her own tips and techniques in solving Sudoko puzzles.

About Ms Catherine Loo
Catherine was born in Hong Kong and had lived in Canada for 30 years. Since coming to Singapore in Sept 2007, Catherine has been an active member and a volunteer for WINGS starting 2009. Her outgoing and sociable personality has gained her many new Singaporean friends. She is passionate about designing salt dough figurines, enjoys teaching and has been sharing her skills like Sudoku, Paper Craft, Chair Exercise and Fondant decoration with her peers.

But did you know that osteoporosis is largely preventable? Join our senior volunteer speaker David, who will share with you his own experience and journey in osteoporosis prevention through natural means.

About Mr. David Chua
David started his career as a secondary school teacher before switching to the banking and property industry. At the age of 40, he decided to take charge of his own health and got himself certified as an Enzyme Therapist with the Transformation Enzyme Corporation (USA)*; and started his career in the health sector. Now retired and at age 70, he is proud to stay medicine-free and pain-free!

Have you ever wonder how some of the people you met are better story-tellers than others? And how they actually captivate and engage their audience so well that you could visualise their stories in your mind. Knowing and applying the art of storytelling will not only strengthen your stories, but also develop the desired interest in the audience.

Join our volunteer speakers, Moses Sia and Sylvia Sim who will share about their own storytelling experiences! Moses, an educator with more than 15 years of teaching experience, will guide you through the 101 of Storytelling using of digital technology. Sylvia who has published 5 books in celebration of SG50, will talk about her own experience in putting the stories together for publication.

About Moses Sia & Sylvia Sim

Moses Sia is an educator at large and a learner at heart. He spent 15 years with MOE in various roles before setting up Pauseability, an education consultancy in 2007. More recently, he headed a school in Bandung, Indonesia and in 2016, he published a book entitled Creative Cool Cat: A Guide to TIM-BUG-tool which he wrote and illustrated. He has facilitated workshops for the young and the young at heart in creativity, art, pedagogy and the use of educational technology.

Sylvia Sim started to learn how to sew at a tender age. She subsequently went on to learn nail sculpture and hairdressing, and began her career in bridal makeup. When Lupus came into her life at 25, it never deterred her spirit to continue learning and doing voluntary work. More than 10 years ago, she created her mini Saga Seed jewellery line named “Bouquet of Joys”. In celebration of SG50, Sylvia was also involved in writing 5 books (e.g. “Keeping Depression at Bay”, “Seniors – Reflections and Sharing”) under the guidance of RSVP.
